Honest Water vs Culligan in El Paso

Culligan is one of the oldest and best-known names in water treatment. Its Aquasential systems offer legitimate advantages including connected smart features, an integrated manufacturer/dealer platform and strong warranty coverage on certain components.

Honest Water takes a different approach: identifiable premium components, published specifications, published starting installed pricing, high flow capacity and no required in-home sales presentation. Here's what we'd compare if we were choosing between the two.

Which should you choose?

Culligan may be the better fit if:

  • You specifically want app-connected water monitoring
  • You prefer an integrated proprietary system from one national manufacturer
  • You value Culligan's dealer network
  • The particular Culligan warranty on your quote is important to you
  • The final installed price makes sense for those features

Honest Water may be the better fit if:

  • You want to know exactly which manufacturers make the major components
  • You value individually certified components/media and component-level transparency
  • You want published specifications
  • You want a published installed starting price
  • You want whole-home softening + carbon + RO in one common package
  • You want very high published service flow
  • You want local installation and service
  • You don't want to sit through an in-home sales presentation just to get pricing

Culligan offers multiple Aquasential configurations. Always compare the exact model number on your quote. Specifications and warranty coverage vary by system.

Two different approaches to certification

Honest Water

Honest Water intentionally publishes the manufacturers and specifications of the major components inside our systems. We believe you should know what's inside your water-treatment system. That's why we publish the manufacturers, specifications and applicable certifications of the major components and media we use, including Hankscraft, ResinTech, Jacobi and Enpress, instead of asking you to rely only on the name printed on the outside of the tank.

ResinTech

Jacobi

Enpress

Applicable certifications are held by the individual components/media and their respective manufacturers. The assembled Honest Water system is not separately NSF-certified as a complete system.

Why we consider this a strength

Some manufacturers certify an assembled system as a complete unit. Honest Water takes a component-transparent approach, using individually certified components and media from established manufacturers and publishing exactly what is inside our systems. Instead of simply telling you the complete system carries a certification, we tell you what's inside the tank, who manufactured it and what specifications and certifications apply to those components. That allows you to independently evaluate the equipment you're actually purchasing.

Culligan

Culligan takes a more vertically integrated approach. Applicable Aquasential systems are tested and certified by WQA as complete Culligan systems to applicable standards, such as NSF/ANSI 44, NSF/ANSI 372 and CSA B483.1. For buyers who specifically value certification of the complete assembled product from a single manufacturer, that is a legitimate advantage.

Culligan: applicable complete-system certification + integrated proprietary platform
Honest Water: component-level certification + maximum component transparency

Neither label by itself tells you which system is the better value for your home.

Where Culligan has a real advantage

Smart technology

Culligan's applicable Aquasential Smart systems offer functionality Honest Water Standard does not, including Wi-Fi connected monitoring through the Culligan Connect app, salt-level information and refill alerts, and water-use tracking. If smart-home integration is important to you, Culligan has the advantage.

Certain warranty categories

Culligan publishes longer warranty coverage than Honest Water on certain components of applicable systems, including lifetime Cullex resin coverage and 10 years on the circuit board and control valve body. Compare the exact written warranty attached to your quote.

Integrated manufacturer ecosystem

Some homeowners prefer purchasing the complete system, controls, media and support through one nationally established manufacturer/dealer ecosystem. Culligan offers that.

Published installed pricing

$2,650 starting installed

  • 48,000-grain whole-home softening
  • Whole-home Jacobi carbon filtration
  • 5-stage reverse osmosis
  • Brine tank
  • First bag of salt
  • Professional installation

  • Customer walkthrough

Culligan El Paso currently advertises soft-water service starting at $50/month, but a directly comparable standard purchase price is not publicly posted. We aren't going to guess what Culligan costs. Get the written installed purchase price and compare it.

We tell you what's inside.

  • Valve: Hankscraft
  • Resin: ResinTech CG10
  • Carbon: Jacobi coconut-shell GAC
  • Tank: Enpress

That isn't a footnote. It's central to how we believe water-treatment equipment should be sold.

Published flow

Honest Water Standard: 27 GPM at 15 PSI pressure drop. Culligan offers multiple models and sizes with different service-flow ratings. Ask which exact Culligan model you're being quoted and compare its published service-flow performance at a stated pressure drop.

Buying process

Most Honest Water city-water homes can be quoted by phone. No multi-hour kitchen-table presentation required. No same-day decision required. Take our price. Take our specifications. Compare them.

Our take

Culligan makes legitimate premium water-treatment equipment. If you value connected smart features, an integrated national manufacturer/dealer ecosystem or certain longer component warranties, an Aquasential system deserves consideration.

Our argument isn't that Culligan makes bad equipment. Our argument is: before you buy it, compare the exact model and total installed purchase price against a $2,650 Honest Water package with identifiable components, published specifications, 27 GPM service flow, whole-home softening, whole-home carbon, reverse osmosis and professional local installation.

Are the differences worth the difference in my quote?

Compare My Culligan Quote

Before you sign, ask these 10 questions

  1. What is the exact model number?
  2. What is the total installed price?
  3. What exactly is included?
  4. Who manufactures the valve, resin, carbon/media and tank?
  5. How much resin/carbon/media is actually included?
  6. What is the published or certified service flow at a stated pressure drop?
  7. Is certification for the complete assembled system, individual components/media, or both?
  8. What does the written warranty cover component by component?
  9. Are labor, travel and service calls covered?
  10. What should I expect to spend on salt, filters, media and service over the next 10 years?

If a company can't answer those questions clearly, don't sign yet.

Just enough information to make an informed decision.
