Honest Water vs Puronics in El Paso
Puronics builds sophisticated whole-home treatment equipment and is sold locally through authorized dealers. Its premium systems offer meaningful features including proprietary multi-stage media configurations, advanced iGen controls and stainless-steel tanks on applicable models.
Honest Water takes a different approach: individually identifiable components, published specifications, published installed pricing, high flow and a simpler local buying process. Here's what to compare.
Local context
Puronics systems are sold locally through authorized dealers including Garcia Water Care and Southwest PURE Water. Garcia Water Care's website does not publicly post Puronics system prices; it asks customers to submit their information to receive its price catalog.
Because a directly comparable public installed price is not available, we will not guess what a Puronics system costs. If you already have a quote, that's even better. Send us the model and price and we'll compare it.
Puronics is not one system
Don't compare "Puronics" as though it were one water softener. Puronics offers multiple system families, including Defender, Hydronex, Terminator and Filtramax. Equipment, tank construction, filtration media, certification and warranty can vary. Always identify the exact model on your quote.
High-end reference comparison
We use the Puronics Filtramax iGen C as a reference for Puronics' premium architecture. Other Puronics models differ.

Puronics' real advantages
Stainless-steel tank
Applicable Filtramax and Terminator systems use a food-grade 316L stainless-steel media tank. Honest Water uses an Enpress fiberglass pressure vessel. Both are legitimate pressure-vessel technologies. If specifically owning a stainless-steel media tank matters to you, Puronics offers something Honest Water Standard does not.
Advanced integrated media configurations
Puronics' premium systems can incorporate proprietary treatment technologies including ChloroShield Clearess and AltaPure filtration. Honest Water intentionally uses a more straightforward architecture built around identifiable ResinTech resin and Jacobi activated carbon. If you specifically value Puronics' additional proprietary media stages and the quote makes sense, that is a legitimate advantage.
iGen control features
Puronics' iGen platform stores up to 60 days of water-use history, creates an automatic reserve and provides built-in diagnostics. Honest Water uses demand-initiated metering and regeneration but does not provide the same 60-day usage-history interface. Puronics has the feature advantage here.

Complete-system certification vs individually certified components
Honest Water
Honest Water intentionally publishes the manufacturers and specifications of the major components inside our systems. We believe you should know what's inside your water-treatment system. That's why we publish the manufacturers, specifications and applicable certifications of the major components and media we use, including Hankscraft, ResinTech, Jacobi and Enpress, instead of asking you to rely only on the name printed on the outside of the tank.
- Hankscraft
- Control valve
- ResinTech
- Ion-exchange resin
- Jacobi
- Activated carbon
- Enpress
- Pressure tank
Applicable certifications are held by the individual components/media and their respective manufacturers. The assembled Honest Water system is not separately NSF-certified as a complete system.
Why we consider this a strength
Some manufacturers certify an assembled system as a complete unit. Honest Water takes a component-transparent approach, using individually certified components and media from established manufacturers and publishing exactly what is inside our systems. Instead of simply telling you the complete system carries a certification, we tell you what's inside the tank, who manufactured it and what specifications and certifications apply to those components. That allows you to independently evaluate the equipment you're actually purchasing.
Puronics
Puronics takes an integrated-system approach. Filtramax iGen C systems are certified by WQA to NSF/ANSI 42, NSF/ANSI 44 and NSF/ANSI 372. Both are legitimate approaches.
The more important question is what equipment you're getting, what treatment it provides and what you're paying for it.
RO package difference
Make sure you're comparing equivalent packages. Honest Water's $2,650 starting package includes a 5-stage under-sink reverse-osmosis system. If your Puronics quote includes comparable RO treatment, compare it. If it doesn't, factor the cost of drinking-water treatment into the total comparison.
Our take
Puronics makes legitimate premium equipment. A Filtramax isn't simply a generic softener with a Puronics sticker on it. The stainless-steel tank, proprietary filtration stages, iGen controls and complete-system certifications are meaningful differences.
What is the installed price, and are those differences worth that price to you?
Honest Water's most common package starts at $2,650 installed and includes whole-home softening, Jacobi activated-carbon filtration, reverse osmosis and professional installation. We publish the valve. We publish the resin. We publish the carbon. We publish the tank. We publish the flow. We publish the warranty. And we publish the starting price. Compare those things against your Puronics quote and decide which represents the better value for your home.
Before you sign, ask these 10 questions
- What is the exact model number?
- What is the total installed price?
- What exactly is included?
- Who manufactures the valve, resin, carbon/media and tank?
- How much resin/carbon/media is actually included?
- What is the published or certified service flow at a stated pressure drop?
- Is certification for the complete assembled system, individual components/media, or both?
- What does the written warranty cover component by component?
- Are labor, travel and service calls covered?
- What should I expect to spend on salt, filters, media and service over the next 10 years?
If a company can't answer those questions clearly, don't sign yet.
